The Ethiopian Red Cross Society has announced that it has provided support worth 34 million birr to people who were in dire straits in different parts of the country.

  

In the last three months, especially in the northern part of the country and the southern parts of Ethiopia, extensive works have been carried out to help the citizens who are at risk of serious problems, Mesfen Dereje, the head of human diplomacy and communication of the association, told ABC Cyber.

 

In particular, in Borena, Horo Gudru Wolega, Wolkait, Debre Berhan, Somali region and various areas of the southern region, he mentioned that he was able to provide various food and non-food items to help the displaced and vulnerable people due to drought and conflict.

 

Mr. Mesfen mentioned that he was able to help people affected by conflict and drought by organizing various fundraising activities. He said that the participation of local and foreign volunteers and members of the association in this fundraising work was outstanding.

 

He also said that the association would like to thank famous individuals, artists and other sections of society for the fundraising and various humanitarian activities to help those affected by the recent drought.

 

The association currently has 6 million members nationwide. He said that 40,000 of them are actively involved in voluntary work.

 

Ato Mesfen stated that the Ethiopian Red Cross Society is currently providing financial, food and non-food support to those who are facing problems due to the drought and conflict in various areas of Ethiopia.
