 In Amhara, if I ask to stop arresting judges while removing them from court; Although the problem has decreased, the arrests continue, said the Amhara Regional Judges Association.

 

The association told us that there are judges who have been charged with legal fees and have not appeared in court for 4 months.

 

According to international laws that Ethiopia has signed and ratified, suspects must be brought to court within 48 hours.

 

But the judges who were arrested in the region have not been brought to court for 3 or 4 months.

 

We believe that this is a dangerous violation of human rights, said the Acting President of the Association, Ato Birhanu Asasa.   

 

"Especially in terms of judicial work behavior and the principle of judicial independence, this activity is very much against the law," says Ato Birhanu.

 

It is said that when the judges were taken away from the court and arrested, most of them were not even told the reason for their arrest.

 

"However, it has been observed from our side that the judges are being arrested because of the judgments they have given in the judicial profession for which they are appointed to work freely," said Ato Birhanu.
